My Story
Hi, I'm Courtney — the founder of MindlightApparel. I'm 24 years old, and I've been living with mental health struggles for the last 10 years, starting back in middle school.
For as long as I can remember, I felt different. I felt alone. I didn't have the words for it then, but something inside me was always a little heavier than it seemed like it should be.
Over the years, I tried multiple therapists, multiple psychiatrists, multiple medications. Some helped a little. None of them felt like the full answer. And through it all, I stayed on autopilot — go, go, go. I refused to let my mental health slow me down or stop me from living my life.
The problem was, I wasn't living a life I was actually happy with. I was stressed. I felt alone, even surrounded by people. Everything felt like too much, all the time. And I kept pushing through it anyway, because slowing down felt like losing.
It wasn't until I went through psychosis — a complete breakdown — that everything changed. That moment forced me to be completely honest with my doctors and my family, in a way I never had been before. And on the other side of that honesty, I finally got the right diagnosis, the right medication, and the right treatment. With my current psychiatrist and therapist, I finally started to feel better. Not perfect. Better.
Looking back, I wish someone had told me sooner: you can slow down. You're allowed to stop for a moment and take care of yourself. Needing help doesn't mean you're falling behind — it means you're finally taking care of the person who's been carrying you this whole time.
That's why I created MindlightApparel.
I want people to feel seen. I want people to feel heard. I want anyone who's ever felt alone in their struggles to know — you are not alone, and you never have been. Mental health challenges can affect absolutely anyone, no matter how put-together life looks from the outside. We all deserve to be understood.
MindlightApparel is more than clothing. It's a community of strong minds — people who face their challenges with resilience, who are learning to meet hard days with a little more softness, and who aren't afraid to talk about it anymore. Wearing this brand is a statement: an act of strength, and an act of advocacy for mental health awareness. It's permission — for you and for everyone who sees you — to slow down, to be honest, and to keep going anyway.
Together, we can end the stigma.
Wear your light. Show it to the world.
